Bairnsdale is a small city, home to more than 15,000, in the East Gippsland region of south-east Victoria. The central business district is bounded by the Mitchell River, which flows from down the Victorian Alps, through Greater Bairnsdale and out to Lake King.
To get to Bairnsdale usually means taking the Princes Highway, which is one of the main highways between Sydney and Melbourne. The Highway goes right through Bairnsdale, and many choose to stop in Bairnsdale to break up their journeys and stop for lunch or dinner.
